About This Painting
The Kotel Wall towers over the Jews praying at the bottom. When looking at this painting of the Kotel, you can feel God’s enormous strength and size being represented by the Wall. Jews and non-Jews from everywhere in the world travel to Jerusalem to pray at the Kotel and leave their written prayers in the cracks. Since most Jews are not allowed to visit the Temple Mount under Jewish law, visiting the Western Wall is the closest they can get to the place in the Holy Temple where the Holy of Holies once was. For Jews, standing at the Western Wall is a way to stand in God’s presence and connect with him on a deeper level. The Kotel reminds Jews that although the Temple may be cracked and broken, they must stand strong in their faith and devotion to God.
