About This Painting
Devoted Jews come to pray and leave their written supplications in the cracks of the Western Wall. Although the Western Wall certainly has its share of troublesome history, the Kotel in Color reminds us that we should be joyful in our conversations with God. The Kotel is significant because it is a remnant of the Holy Temple that was the center of Jewish life in Jerusalem thousands of years ago. Although it took many centuries for Jews to have access to pray at the Wall, it is now one of the most visited, most spiritual sites for Jews and non-Jews. While the Wall is a symbol for both destruction and eternal life, this Kotel painting speaks to the more positive symbolism of the Kotel.
