About This Painting
This original oil portrait of Rav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv by Nechama Fine Art shows the devoted rabbi studying Jewish law with his head down, staring intently at the page. This image evokes his tremendous scholarship and leadership, as thousands upon thousands of people flocked to his door at all times for questions in Jewish law, advice, and spiritual guidance.
Rav Elyashiv was a towering Torah sage, and his rulings extend across the full gamut of Jewish practical life. He spent his life studying Torah and taught from a Shul in Yerushalayim. Many people from countries near and far came to Rav Elyashiv to ask for blessing, guidance and to learn from him. During his 102 years of life, Rav Elyashiv saw the death of six out of his eleven children, but when he passed, he had 1,400 descendants. During his life, he spent almost all of his time studying the Torah. From his studies, he was able to deliver answers to questions, rulings, and sermons which have been collected in books like Yashiv Moshe and the Kovetz Teshuvos Elyashiv.
