About This Painting
This gold and black painting demonstrates the mystical beauty and wondrous nature of Yerushalayim. The black “cracks” in the picture can be interpreted to symbolize the destruction of the Holy Temple or how Jerusalem has been divided between Israel and Palestine. Jerusalem is central to Jewish culture because it was the site of the Holy Temple where the Holy of Holies housed the Ark of the Covenant. Today, all that remains of the Holy Temple is Jerusalem’s Western Wall, a site where Jews go to pray, leave handwritten prayers, and connect with God. While this painting symbolizes the division and destruction that have befallen Jerusalem and the Jewish people, it also captures the beauty and mysticism of the city.
