About This Painting
Light is an important symbol in many religions, and in the Jewish tradition, candles are lit on Shabbat to bring peace to the world. The Torah speaks about light many times in its teachings. On Shabbat, the light of the Shabbos candles reminds us that God is the light in a world of darkness. The Holy Temple now exists within the heart of every Jew, and it is our job to bring God’s message and his light to a dark world. Shabbat is the day of rest, and after the candles are lit, work is not to be done. The light shines brightly out into the world and lets everyone know that there are millions of faithful, devoted Jews who are dedicated to following God’s path and keeping with the traditions.
